This article is about the rock. For a list of asteroids, see Category: Asteroids.
Asteroids are huge floating space rocks which, although relatively uncommon in the vast emptiness of space, still pose a menace to traveling spaceships throughout the universe. Often gravity pulls them together into large groups called asteroid fields. Many contain and are mined for gold, copper, illyrium, and/or other valuable elements.
Asteroids occasionally crash into planets and cause minor inconveniences such as property damage and mass extinctions.
