The Force is an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, binds us, and holds the universe together.
Beings with a high enough concentration of midi-chlorians in their cells can commune with the Force, tapping into its power to perform supernatural acts and feats beyond their own physical strength. Because midi-chlorians are only common in the Lukassi galaxy and, to a lesser extent, the Milky Way galaxy where they were transplanted during the Great Lukassi-Milky Way Migration, most beings in the universe have never even heard of it.
Though the Force is inherently a neutral power, it is said to have a "Light Side" and a "Dark Side" depending on how the adherent uses it. Peace, calm and detachment lead to the Light Side, while fear, anger, and aggression lead to the Dark Side. In the heat of battle, romance and other stressful situations, the allure of the Dark Side is difficult to resist.
Several factions of Force-users have developed, including the Je'daii, the Jedi, the Daughters of Allya, the Dark Jedi, and the Sith Lords.
